You could call it the amazing race. Hundreds of brides descended on Filene's Basement to get their hands on 2,500 gowns, sizes 2 to 26, from famous bridal houses priced at $249, $499 and $699. These same gowns would go for $900 to $10,000 at bridal salons. The sale is only on Feb. 27, until 10 p.m.

The gowns are not returnable.
4 Union Square South
New York, NY 10003.
Telephone number: 212-358-0169.
The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
If you're feeling brave, About.com has some tips for surviving the sale.
Forget modesty and expect to try on dresses in public.
A dress that is too big is easier to alter than a gown that is too small.
In case you can't make it to the Manhattan sale, Filene's will have similar events in stores throughout the country.
According to Filene's Web site, once the doors open it can take anywhere from 60 seconds to 2 minutes for the racks to be stripped bare. So if you find something, grab it and don't look back.
