MyFoxNY.com - On Tuesday's Good Day New York, Ken Schlager, editor of the magazine New Jersey Monthly , shared information on the benefits beachgoers will find at the redeveloped Asbury Park. Watch the video, left.

There is much more to the Jersey Shore than Asbury Park.  And there are plenty of great beach towns on Long Island  as well. Here are some other towns to think about:

  * Long Branch has a rich history and also has been recently redeveloped.  Aside from the beautiful shoreline, you'll find a new boardwalk, and the Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park , a 33-acre county facility for swimming, boating and picknicking. There is also plenty of shopping and a large selection of restaurants, including Schlager's pick: Avenue. The town also boasts a  lively nightlife.

  * Belmar is a smaller beach town ,but packed with fun for the whole family. It's home to the New Jersey Seafood Festival  in June and the  the Sand Castle Contest in July.

  * For a more quiet beach experience, Schlager suggests checking out Lavallette or Ortley Beach

  * Long Beach Island, better known as LBI, is a barrier island that offers both ocean and bay beaches. At most beaches, you can park for free and pay a one day admission. LBI is also home to the Fantasy Island Amusement Park and the Surflight Theatre offers productions for adults and kids all summer long. You can visit Old Barney , the lighthouse with 217 steps to the top, or take a fishing dock  tour at  Viking Village .

  * For the ultimate in "kitsch" head to Wildwood . Many of the hotels have been redone to mimic their original look from the 50's and 60's. The boardwalk boasts huge water and amusement parks .

New Jersey Monthly offers a  Web guide to the shore.

And you can also get information on how to find a rental at the Jersey Shore this summer.

The Hamptons may be Long Island's most famous and expensive beach towns but there are lots of other shore towns that have plenty to offer.

Long Beach is a city in Nassau County, on a barrier island off the South Shore of Long Island. It is less than a mile wide from ocean to bay and only three miles long. The city boasts a boardwalk, homes on canals and is easily accessed by public transportation .

* Fire Island is another south shore barrier island. It is accessible by car but motorized vehicles (except emergency vehicles)  do not travel within the island. The towns of the island are accessible by numerous ferries .  Walking is the best way around. There are 16 towns on Fire Island, each with its own personality: Some are bigger and more bustling than others.
