July 16, 2009--President Barack Obama tells a group of
Democratic donors he supports New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine as a
leader "who has been called to govern in extraordinary times."
Obama says Corzine has made tough choices in the recession.
The rock star president is campaigning in New Jersey Thursday
hoping to rescue Corzine's ailing re-election campaign. He's to
address a rally at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel in a few
minutes. He met with party donors at a smaller event first.
A Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll out Thursday finds
GOP challenger Chris Christie leading Corzine by 6 percentage
points among registered voters.
More than 52,000 sought tickets to see Obama. Some 17,500 got
their wish.
