MYFOXNY.COM - A new device is helping blind people see.

The BrainPort consists of a lollipop like device worn on the tongue, a hand-held control and a camera mounted on a pair of sunglasses. The video camera takes a picture of the area in front of the subject.

The camera image is converted into a digitized image that is turned into a gentle electrical stimulation that vibrates on the tongue. With extensive training, a blind person can translate that vibration into pictures That person looks at the vibration and sees an outline based on the intensity of the vibration.

The vibration is felt by the tongue, goes to the brain and then the brain reconstructs that into a letter or some other image.
