NEW YORK - The Health Department has detected West Nile virus in New York City mosquitoes for the first time this season.   The mosquitoes were collected from Ferry Point Park in the Bronx.

So far, no human cases have been detected. The health commissioner, Dr. Thomas Farley, recommends simple precautions, such as mosquito repellent and covering your arms and legs outside at dawn or dusk.

People over age 50 are most likely to suffer serious illness from the virus.
