MYFOXNY.COM - Today is Earth Day. Good Day's Brett Larson found out how new technology is turning waste into water.

He went inside the Metropolitan Recycling Center in Brooklyn.  It is one of the largest privately owned recycling facilities.

Watch the video, left, for the full report.

About 15,000 tons of trash is recycled every month.

Seventeen trees are saved for every ton of paper recycled.

The center is using a new machine to turn food waste into water.

The water is cleaned and most of the odors are removed.

The same trash in a landfill would create methane gas.
