Forensic Psychologist Dr. J. Buzz Von Ornsteiner runs a mental health clinic in Brooklyn. Good Day NY asked him about what would drive someone like Phillip Markoff, a young, pe-med student, engaged and apparently having a bright future to allegedly kill someone?
Watch the video, left, for the interview.
Dr. Buzz says we make assumptions about people, but we have to look at the individual. Markoff seemed to be kind of mysterious, possibly having a a double life.
As for the forensic evidence found: investigators found material that he could use to handcuff people. It shows premeditation. In addition to that, he possibly had gambling debts.
It's possible he did not choose to use support services and pursued criminal activity or maybe he has always been engaging in criminal behavior and he has never been caught.
And, as for Craiglist: the Internet is a fantastic tool. On Craigslist- a free service- you are dealing with women who are vulnerable, need money, and may be offering services. It is like placing a fox in the henhouse. Individuals can go to these women, who have no support, no relationship, as they are engaging in illegal activities.
