MYFOXNY.COM - Will you be ready if Hurricane Earl hits the Tri-State region? With current forecast models showing the storm skimming the East Coast later this week, you can expect heavy rain, strong winds and dangerous riptides.

September is National Preparedness month, so OEM Commissioner Joseph Bruno stops by to encourage New Yorkers to prepare for coastal storm hazards. It's also a great idea to make or buy a "Go Bag." These are bags that have vital items you may need if you have to leave your home in an emergency.

We also spoke with Suffolk County OEM Commissioner Joseph F. Williams about efforts underway in the county to get ready for the storm. Williams also recommends a go-kit including legal papers, insurance policies and other vital documents. Williams is encouraging all Long Islanders to have a plan in place as to how they'll survive the storm including having plenty of food and water handy.
