MYFOXNY.COM - A new procedure using stem cells may help your dog if it gets sick.
On Aug. 11th, Dr. Brian Voynick, a New Jersey veterinarian, performed the first "animal stem cell transplant" on the east coast.
The lucky dog is Bentley, a 2 year old great pyrenees. Bentley had been suffering from a torn ligament and arthritic back-right knee and limping.
MediVet-America calls it a major scientific advancement in animal stem cell regenerative therapy for pets and other animals.
It helps animals suffering from osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, ligament and cartilage injuries and many other degenerative diseases.
Since the procedure,Bentley's owner Erin says he has a lot more energy and more mobility.
Dr. Voynick, Bentley, and Bentley's owner Erin Mcguire appeared on Good Day New York from the American Animal Hospital in Randolph New Jersey to talk about the procedure.
The technology works by stem cells being harvested from the animal's own fatty tissue. They are then administered to accelerate the healing of damaged muscles and joints.
The entire process is done in one day at a clinic.
