Boyle Calls For Paterson Impeachment

MYFOXNY.COM - It has been nearly 100 years since a governor of New York was impeached.

Impeachment is the formal process by which an elected official is accused of a crime and may or may not be removed from office.

Good Day NY's Greg Kelly spoke with State Assemblyman Phil Boyle on Wednesday. Boyle is calling for the impeachment of Gov. Paterson.

Boyle- An impeachment means you actually vote to have a trial.

Kelly -Many are saying it shouldn't happen including other legislators.

Boyle- I'm the only one calling for impeachment, but i don't think this is an extreme measure..  witness tampering and perhaps perjury is involved. We should really have a trial instead of day by day reading it in the press.

Kelly-What's the urgency?

Boyle-You can start a trial in 30 days...call a couple of witnesses...it can be done in one week.

Kelly-You haven't impeached anyone in 100 years... not everyone is familiar with the processes... the budget is always late... you really think this can be handled efficiently?

Boyle- If the impeachment takes place the governor steps aside and the lt. governor take his place.

Kelly- Attorney General Andrew Cuomo should have given this to a special prosecutor he should have let an objective party take this over.
