MYFOXNY.COM - Consumer Reports says one out of four people polled say they plan on giving less in tips this holiday season.
NY Money Authority Lisa Murphy spoke with finance experts at SmartMoney.com on appropriate amounts to tip various people in your life.
"Really look at your budget and try to set aside enough cash tips for the people who really help you and are closest to you," says SmartMoney.com. "Give gifts or smaller donations or some combination to other people like your hairdresser or your garbage man."
Another suggestion: focus on people you don't tip during the year such as your babysitter or the housekeeper.
A good rule of thumb is one week pay for what you might typically pay for a session of work. And, last but not least, tip yearly! It's the season to spend so people appreciate getting the cash earlier rather than later.
