Text of Dr. Sapna Parikh's report:
FLU CASES UP: Every year there is a small increase in seasonal flu cases after Thanksgiving. This year health officials are warning it could be worse because the swine flu virus is new. The number of cases could go up since so many people are traveling and getting together with family and friends. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging everyone to get vaccinated, wash their hands often and cover coughs and sneezes.
NO SWINE FLU SHOT FOR SOME KIDS: Kids in New Jersey are no longer being required to get a seasonal flu shot. Officials still want all kids in daycare and preschool to get the vaccine, but now a shortage of vaccine is making that rule impossible but doctors say if you are able to find it, then vaccinate your child. The swine flu vaccine is also in high demand and hard to find.
GRATITUDE BRINGS GOOD HEALTH: Here is a reason to give thanks all year long- not just tomorrow. Research shows that gratitude really does bring you good health and happiness. There have been several recent studies on the science of gratitude. One study by researchers at the University of California found that people who are grateful are less resentful and less envious. They exercise more, sleep longer and have lower blood pressure.
