New York Governor David Paterson sent all 212 members of the state legislature a letter urging them to put politics aside and reach an agreement on balancing the state's $3.2 million budget deficit.
NY Post Columnist Fred Dicker says the letter went out after a weekend of failed negotiations.
Paterson is asking for cuts to school aid and health care, but opponents say Paterson's plan will hurt schools, hospitals, raise taxes and force layoffs.
The legislature is expected to return to work today
