Nearly 50 million American adults are lactose intolerant.
These people are unable to digest milk causing painful side-effects like bloating, cramping and severely upset stomachs.
Researchers says the body stops producing the enzyme needed to break down lactose between the ages of two and five. The older you get, the more difficult it becomes for the body to digest milk.
If you find that you're having trouble digesting milk, Dr. Sapna Parikh recommends switching to smaller portions of either two percent or whole milk. Skim milk has the most lactose.
