Congressman Gregory Meeks had a private conversation over dinner with Governor David Paterson about the concerns the White House has over a run for re-election by New York State's leader.
Rep. Meeks says the White House never told him to pass along a message to Paterson (as was reported) to not seek re-election.
Good Day NY's Greg Kelly spoke with Meeks on Tuesday.
The NY Times report that Meeks was sent to "reinforce the message" that Paterson should sit out the election in 2010 due to sagging poll numbers is "not exactly" true.
"The message was there are problems," Meeks said on Good Day NY. "I'm not going into specifics of the dinner... it was a social dinner... it was supposed to be a private conversation between me and my friend."
When asked if he believes Paterson should run next year, Meeks answered "that's Governor Paterson's decision."
