MYFOXNY.COM - The school year begins on Wednesday for New York City public school students and teachers.
Swine flu and a speech to be given by President Barack Obama are some of the hot topics for students, parents and the new president of the union.
Good Day NY's Rosanna Scotto spoke with Michael Muglrew who began his presidency on August 1.
On President Obama's speech to students that some say is a form of indoctrination, Mulgrew says that couldn't be farther from the truth.
"We think the speech is fantastic... we're going to make the link to the video available for all students to watch throughout the school year."
On preparations for a potential swine flu outbreak:
"Protocols are key," says Mulgrew.
Hand washing, staying home when you're sick and ensuring schools send sick children home are the preventative measures that can avert a serious problem related to the swine flu, says Mulgrew.
