MYFOXNY.COM - Erika Weinstein, the president of Stephen Bradford Search (an executive search firm) has some advice about what to do and NOT do on a job interview.
1. Don't lead with your resume, because then it's about you. Really, it's about the company and what you can do for them.
2. Talk about timely events, what's happened today. It shows you can be social and that you stay up on current events.
3. Ask your interviewer really interesting questions:
--"What stresses you out?" (This can lead to an answer where
you can be the solution.)
--"If there's something you could change within your
business strategy?"
Here are two common interview problems and how to avoid them:
Problem: Late for the appointment
Solution: The exceptional candidate will check out the location and route well ahead of going to the interview. Do a dry run the day before your interview. You only have a few seconds to make a lasting impression: If you are late once, you are always going to be late. There are no good reasons for being late.
Problem: Not prepared for interview
Solution: Do your research. Know the company, know the person who is interviewing you, and look around at pictures. You want to make it personal, because getting hired is personal. It is very easy to get information on the person and company online.
