MYFOXNY.COM - Television’s transition to digital is coming on June 12th, and if you're not ready, you could lose your TV signal.
After delaying the February deadline, we are on track for a June transition, but what is happening, why and are you ready? Brett Larson reports. Watch the video.
We’ve been talking about how to prepare you for television’s switch to digital for several months now.
The analogue are going digital. It's like when you send an e-mail from your computer, only this time... millions of 1's and 0's of digital television will be traveling into your home. The benefit ? A clearer picture, better sound and even high definition. No more snow and static.
If you have a TV connected to cable, you don't need a converter box, but if you're using rabbit ears you will need the box.
Your old TV won't tune in to the new digital signal without a converter box. Their cost is off-set with a $40 coupon from the government which you can get for free.
If you've got the budget for a new TV, there is some good news here.
TV prices have come down probably about 20 percent from this year to last year.
TVs start at 15 inches and go up to 52 inches. Prices are very reasonable, starting at about $220 and going up to $2500.
