(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Jaden Smith wasn't even born when the original "Karate Kid" movie was filmed, but now the 11-year-old son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith is taking over the role played by Ralph Macchio in a remake of the classic 1984 movie.
The youngest son of the Hollywood power couple is learning the ropes and some moves from his co-star Jackie Chan, according to the New York Daily News .
"I trained every day for four months with Master Wu [the film's fight coordinator]," Jaden told People magazine . "We did a lot of stretching."
The film borrows elements of the original plot, as a bullied youth, played by Jaden, learns to stand up for himself with the help of his eccentric mentor, played by Chan.
Chan said Jaden quickly mastered front kicks and upper blocks. "He took the training very seriously," Chan said. "I was very impressed with him."
The movie, which was filmed in Beijing and is being produced by Will Smith, is due in theaters June 11. See official photos from Columbia Pictures.
Jaden made his movie debut opposite his father in the 2006 film "The Pursuit of Happyness." Last year he appeared with Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly in "The Day The Earth Stood Still."
His younger sister Willow, 9, also is following in her parents' footsteps . She's already had roles in "I Am Legend" and "Madagascar 2," and made her TV debut in July on Nickelodeon's "True Jackson, V.P."
