MYFOXNY.COM - The Friends of Firefighters organization was created in the days following the 9/11 attacks. The group has offered support to firefighters and their families since that fateful day. One of the organization's biggest supporters is actor Steve Buscemi. He stopped by the Good Day studios to talk about ways you can help, too.
While the group's initial response revolved around the most critical needs of individuals affected by the events of 9/11, the mission of Friends of Firefighters has evolved and expanded in the years since. In addition to providing in-house services, FoF acts as a means of linking members of the firefighting community with other programs, making those programs more successful in reaching and helping those in need.
Steve Buscemi was himself a New York City fireman from 1980 to 1984, with Engine Company #55 in Little Italy.
Nancy Carbone is the founder and exec director of Friends of Firefighters. Marion Fontano lost her husband on 9/11.
Friends of Firefighters is hosting a Spring Gala Saturday June 5, 2010, where Hollywood meets the Bravest in the heart of New York City. Call 718-643-0980 to reserve your ticket or pay at the door.
