Over the weekend, more than 1.6 million fans registered online for a chance to win two of the 17,500 free tickets made available to the public. The lucky winners were notified via email Sunday night and began picking up their tickets at Dodger Stadium on Monday. A wristband will be placed on each person's wrist that will allow them entry to the event.

The tickets will admit 11,000 people to the Staples Center plus 6,500 in the Nokia Theater overflow section next door. The streets around Staples Center will be closed to prevent those without tickets from trying to attend, police said.

The ceremony will not be shown on Staples' giant outdoor TV screen and there will be no funeral procession through the city. There are no details available about the actual memorial events.

Longtime Grammy Awards producer Ken Ehrlich is in charge of the event and he told the N.Y. Daily News that it would be a low-key affair without "bells and whistles."

"It will be a celebration of Michael's life, [but] we're not approaching it as a TV show," Ehrlich said.

A host of celebrities are expected to attend and participate in the event. TMZ is reporting that Mariah Carey will perform the Jackson 5 classic, "I'll Be There," and the Chicago Sun-Times states that Smokey Robinson will be one of the many speakers.

A preliminary list of other people expected to participate includes family friend Ron Boyd; Kobe Bryant; Andrae Crouch Choir; Berry Gordy; Jennifer Hudson; "Britain's Got Talent" finalist Shaheen Jafargholi; Magic Johnson; Martin Luther King III; Bernice A. King; John Mayer; Lionel Richie; Rev. Al Sharpton; Brooke Shields; Pastor Lucious Smith; Usher; and Stevie Wonder.

An attorney for Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe said she will not be there, saying her attendance would be "an unnecessary distraction."

Jackson's family is planning a private ceremony at the Forest Lawn cemetery in the Hollywood Hills. The details of the private event have not been released.
