News of the death of Michael Jackson cast a pall on the premiere of Shakespeare in the Park in New York Thursday. Stars attending the evening's events said they were shocked by the news of the King of Pop's sudden and shocking death.

Fox 5's Anne Craig attended the opening. She spoke to Rosie Perez, Jane Krakowski, Sandra Bernhard, Daniel Sunjata, Judith Light, and also Rashida Jones -- who is the daughter of legendary music producer Quincy Jones. Quincy Jones produced Jackson's Thriller.
The celebrities all agreed that Michael Jackson's impact on music is incalculable and spans generations of fans al over the world. Many said they felt bad for Jackson's family, especially his three children.
News of Jackson's death also dominated the discourse on social media sites such as Twitter, where celebs and just about every one else reacted.
Singer John Mayer tweeted: "Dazed in the studio. A major strand of our cultural DNA has left us. RIP MJ."
Staten Island native Ingrid Michaelson -- who scored hit songs that were featured on Grey's Anatomy -- tweeted "this has blindsided me. i feel strange. and sad." She later posted: "reminders of how short life is. i'm going to profess my love to someone. you should too."
