Rookie American Idol Judge Ellen DeGeneres is making a smooth transition into her new role on the hit FOX show.

DeGeneres says say had "one idea of Simon... and it's changed.... he's actually meaner than I thought."

The job of a judge is harder than it looks.

"I'm not just at home looking at these people and having judgments I'm actually having to say things to their face so that was hard. That's really been consistently the hardest part about this, " said DeGeneres.

Catch American Idol Tuesdays at 8 p.m. & Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on FOX 5.
