American Idol Contestant's Death: Man Charged

Alexis Cohen Struck, Killed by Car in New Jersey

MyFox Philly report

A Toms River man faces charges in the death of Alexis Cohen, a former “American Idol” contestant.

The Asbury Park press says Daniel Bark, 23, was arrested Sunday night in Atlantic Highlands on charges of causing Cohen's death by reckless driving and then leaving the scene.

Bark could serve 10 to 15 years and is being held in Toms River in lieu of $35,000 bail.

Cohen was the Allentown, Pa., woman who famously flipped off Simon Cowell at a local “American Idol” audition in Philadelphia.

Cohen, 25, auditioned for the Idol judges twice and became known as “Glitter Girl” after her profanity-laced tirades against Cowell.

Investigators say Cohen's body was found on the side of a road in Seaside Heights, New Jersey around 4 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities had ruled her death a homicide and said she was struck and killed by a car.

The Ocean County Prosecutors Office says an autopsy indicated Cohen suffered chest, head and abdominal injuries caused by the collision.

When Cohen auditioned two years ago in Philadelphia, she told the show she was sharing an efficiency apartment with her mother in Allentown.

After singing a Jefferson Airplane song and not getting past open auditions, Cohen threw a tantrum in front of Ryan Seacrest and used colorful language to describe the judges.

Cohen was also an aspiring comedian and actress.
